What are peptides and why are more people talking about this?
Peptides are short combinations of amino acids (similar to proteins) which act to modify and regulate cellular metabolism and repair, through various means. Often medications and supplements labelled as peptides are synthetically created, but can be derived from natural products. Peptides taken as a supplement or medication act upon specific receptors and stimulate changes within the cell. Some hormones are also peptides, like insulin, oxytocin, endorphins, and growth hormone.
Peptides as a medication or supplement are generally offered as injectable and/or oral supplements. Some peptides exist in the human body already, such as BPC-157 which is made in the stomach. Other peptides are derived from food sources or manufactured synthetically for purposes of improving the cellular metabolism, glucose and lipid balance, stimulate tissue repair, or acts a hormones in other ways.
BPC -157 has a long history of research showing its benefit on gut healing, injury healing, stimulating production of new blood vessels, supporting liver and cardiovascular repair, improving sleep and growth hormone, and much more. BPC-157 is a peptide that is naturally made in the stomach, demonstrating how much a healthy digestive tract can influence the rest of the body. BPC 157 is an example of how healing can begins in the gut. A common result from taking BPC 157 may be improved sleep by improving the gut-brain axis and increase in growth hormone.
GLP-1 related peptides: Other peptides are synthetic combinations of amino acids which mimic natural body processes, such as GLP-1/GIP agonists (eg. GLP-1 medications suppress appetite and stimulate changes in insulin, which can be appropriate for patients with diabetes. BPC-157 - Gut, body, and nerve repair, promotes deep Sleep
BPC-157, also known as “Body Protective Compound” is perhaps the most common peptide used in clinical practice, having been first discovered in 1993. BPC-157 increases nitric oxide, improves gut healing, tissue repair, and stimulates growth hormone, helping with liver and cardiovascular regeneration, with many benefits shown for the nervous system. One common benefit patients report is improved sleep. BPC-157 acts to stimulate repair and anti-inflammatory for the cardiovascular system, and is also shown to stimulate the creation of new blood vessels as part of the repair process. This is not used in patients with known cancer as new blood vessels can theoretically increase cancer growth.
